Etiponla

Etipon-ola = etiponla: It is a contraction of Etipase Eran Nla. The botanical name is Nyctaginaceae Boerhavia Diffusa, Linn. The common name etiponla corresponds to South Nigeria, being one of various names. The two tone green leaf in Africa and India are used as an expectorant. The root is used as: diuretic, internal inflammation, asthma, epileptic seizures, anti-spasmodic, hysteria, rheumatism.

Its common names in the Caribbean are: Mata Pavo; Toston; Yerba De Perro. In religious use in Cuba it's referred to as Atiponla.

English common names are: Hogweed; Pigweed; Horse Purslane.

Associated Orishas: Ifa, Obatala, Elegba.
